MONTICELLO — A White County man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a vehicle explosion last week in Monticello.

Wayne L.T. Boswell, 32, of Wolcott, was charged with one count of arson, a Level 4 felony, in connection with an explosion inside of a vehicle in the 7100 block of North Lakewood Drive in Monticello.

According to Indiana State Police reports and White County court documents, deputies from the White County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene at about 11:45 p.m. and immediately sought the assistance of ISP. They discovered that a white 2006 Toyota Tundra with South Carolina license plates had been severely damaged by an explosion inside the cab of the truck.

According to police, further investigation determined the explosion was caused by a mortar-like firework.

ISP detectives spent much of Monday and Tuesday conducting interviews, canvassing the neighborhood and obtaining video surveillance of the area. On Wednesday, a felony warrant was issued for Boswell in connection with the explosion.

Boswell was arrested by ISP and was lodged at the White County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Boswell has a pre-trial conference and omnibus hearing set for 9 a.m. Nov. 25, with a trial set for 9 a.m. Feb. 16, 2021.
