KVHS takes on NCC's best team

MUNSTER — Kankakee Valley’s swim teams took on some of the state’s best swimmers during a dual meet at Northwest Crossroads Conference foe Munster Tuesday night, Jan. 5.

The Lady Kougars had three swimmers record personal bests in a 140-37 loss to the Seahorses.

Allie Rushmore had PR times in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, Belle Eenigenburg had a PR in the 100-yard breaststroke and Kolby Enix had her best time in the 100 backstroke.

Rushmore was third in the 50 free and the 100 backstroke, Enix was fifth in the 100 back and Eenigenburg was second in the 100 breaststroke.

Kirsten West had a season-best time in the 500 freestyle where she placed third overall. West also finished third in the 200 free and swam a leg on KV’s runner-up 200 medley relay (with Brianna Castle, Isabelle Eeningenburg and Gabrielle Oliver) and second-place 400 free relay (with Oliver, Kaitlyn Santaguida and Rushmore).

Santaguida was fourth in the 200 IM, Oliver finished fourth in the 100 freestyle and the 200 free relay team of Grace Edwards, Belle Eenigenburg, Santaguida and Jayla Barrera was second.

The boys’ team, meanwhile, suffered a 140-36 setback to Munster, with senior Bryce Brodner’s second-place finish in the 50 freestyle the highlight.

Brodner was also fourth in the 100 free and competed in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams that claimed third. Joining Brodner in the 200 medley were Luke Bristol, Nick Misner and Brayden Kollada.

Brodner’s teammates in the 200 free included Chase Brown, Bristol and Kollada.

The 400 free relay team of Misner, Coen Murray, Brock Martin and Brown finished fourth.

Bristol was third in the 100 breaststroke and Brown placed fourth in the 500 free.
