Taking a brief break from playing games on the Riverview UMC church lawn. community members enjoyed a hayride into the rural areas of Warren County surrounding Independence, Oct. 5, during the annual Fall Fest.

As Pastor Dan Jordan marks his 18th year serving at Riverview United Methodist Church in Independence, this past weekend the church celebrated its 10th Fall Festival in the community.

Jordan explained that he started his path in the ministry as an associate layman at the Attica UMC.

“When the pastor at Riverview retired in 2001, I was asked to fill in on a temporary basis. As the months became years, I was then asked if I wanted to earn the full minister’s license,” Jordan stated.

He’s been taking the classes and is nearing completion. In the meantime, he and his wife, Robin, decided to approach the church board with a way to welcome the community as well as members of the congregation to socialize and enjoy some fellowship at Riverview. And that’s when the Fall Festival began to develop.

“Each year we’ve added or changed a few games and it’s been a good event,” he added.
