The RCMS eighth-grade girls’ basketball team beat rival Kankakee Valley and Seeger to claim the South Newton tourney title last Saturday.

KENTLAND — Rensselaer Central’s eighth-grade girls’ basketball team held off Kankakee Valley and Seeger for the South Newton Tournament title last Saturday in Kentland.

The Lady Bombers opened the tournament with a 22-15 win over KVMS, getting six points from Sarah Kaufman. Cadence Manns and Bailee Radtke added four each and Haley Graf, Grace Healey, Emma Rentschler and Addy Hensler had baskets.

RCMS then edged Seeger, 23-19, to take home the trophy. The Bombers held a 7-5 lead at halftime, but the Patriots took a 15-12 lead heading into the final period.

RCMS would outscore its opponents, 11-4, in the fourth to rally for the win.

Healey and Kaufman had seven points each for the winners and Manns added four points. Radtke finished with three and Graf added a basket.
