KENTLAND — Rensselaer Central’s seventh-grade middle school girls’ basketball team rolled to the South Newton Tournament title last weekend.
The Lady Bombers (5-1) scored 103 points in two games to collect the tournament trophy. They opened the event with a 52-7 rout of the host Rebels.
Jesi Fleming had a season-high 21 points and Liberty Bate added 10. Brooke Koebcke had six points, followed by Carly Drone and Lydia Redlin with five each, Annalise Yeager and Brodie Radtke with a basket each and Kevee Rule had a free throw.
In the championship game, the Bombers blasted KVMS, 51-10, with Drone scoring a season-best 17 points. Redlin had 10 points and Maddie Graf added nine.
Fleming also had nine points, Koebcke finished with five and Radtke added a basket.
The Bombers took a 22-7 lead by halftime and held the Kougars scoreless in the final quarter (18-0).
• On Monday night, the Bombers continued to roll with a 23-4 rout of host North White behind eight points from Carly Drone. Kevee Rule added five points and Lydia Redlin had four. Jesi Fleming and Brooke Koebcke added baskets.
The teams played just two quarters, with RCMS outscoring the Vikings, 16-2, in the first period.
