RENSSELAER — The Rensselaer Police Department recently investigated complaints of criminal mischief done in the 400 block of North Cullen Street. This is according to information from the RPD.
On May 25, a caller advised that somebody had spray-painted a message on the side of his vehicle that was parked in the driveway. Another vehicle, parked in the driveway, had flat tires that were discovered to have been cut. An RPD sergeant located a pile of fencing materials that had been burned and was smoldering. The items were valued at approximately $700 by the victim.
It was learned that 24-year-old Tyler Morrow of Rensselaer may be involved in causing the damage and that he may be upset with the victims over a relationship they are having. Video footage was obtained that showed the fire being set in the victim’s yard. Video was also located at a local store showing Morrow purchasing items used in the crime.
The sergeant spoke with Morrow at his residence about any involvement he may have in the incident. Morrow was visibly nervous when being questioned and was asked to come to the department, where the sergeant attempted to interview him. He declined to answer questions and requested a lawyer.
A report was forwarded to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Morrow’s arrest. He was later located at his home and taken to the Jasper County Detention Center, where he was booked in on charges of criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor and arson, a level 6 felony.
