WHEATFIELD — Police were called to a report of a car hitting a train at the Wheatfield crossing at 2:16 a.m. on Sunday.

Jasper County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Burke arrived at the scene to find a 2005 Pontiac four-door was traveling northbound on State Road 10 when it hit a train.

The Pontiac, driven by Daniel Donohoe, 22, of DeMotte, was attempting to stop for the Norfolk Southern train when, according to Donohoe, the brakes failed and he drove into the side of the train.
