New Lil’ King & Queen crowned

Brodie Black and Lily Kristoff were crowned the 2019 Lil’ King and Queen during the opening ceremonies Friday at the 47th annual Little Cousin Jasper Festival. Contestant Katie Lane was also honored with a gift that evening. The festival committee wished to show her some recognition, since she has participated in the Lil’ King & Queen Contest for every year that she was able to try it. The ceremonies took place on the steps of the Jasper County Courthouse, and the festival will be taking place on the square over the weekend. Speakers that first evening included Pat Fox, the president of the committee who is also serving as the grand marshal of this year’s parade, Jasper County Commissioner Kendell Culp and Rensselaer Mayor Stephen Wood. Some were frustrated when last year’s festival weekend had a lot of rain. Fortunately for Fox and the other festival organizers, this year’s opening ceremonies avoided any rainfall, despite Friday’s somewhat ominous weather.
