MOROCCO — The Town of Morocco is continuing to clean up following a sever thunderstorm that went through Sunday afternoon, causing damage to several homes and knocking out power for more than 7 hours.
“Newton County had some high winds and according to the National Weather Service it appeared to be straight line winds,” stated Newton County EMA Director Ray Chambers. “However, the area from SR 14 to SR 114 appeared to have experienced the worst with the Town of Morocco experiencing most of the damage. Several large trees were uprooted and larger branches were broken off causing damage to several structures throughout the area.”
Chambers added that no injuries were reported and power was reestablished to most residences around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
