LOGANSPORT — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a water recovery incident that ultimately resulted in a death of a Pulaski County man Thursday evening at France Park.

The man was identified Friday afternoon as Ignacio Sanchez Juares, 48, of Francesville.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the park, between Burnettsville and Logansport, for a man who had reportedly been rescued from the water.

Witnesses stated they observed Juares run into the water from the beach, swim a short distance and then disappear under water. Multiple bystanders entered the water in search of Juares and were able to locate and pull him to shore. Once on land, bystanders performed CPR until EMS personnel arrived on scene.

Juares was then transported via ambulance to Logansport Memorial Hospital and later flown to Park View Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m.

Investigators said they do not know why Juares disappeared underwater and did not resurface on his own.

A toxicology report has been scheduled to determine if alcohol or drugs may have been a factor.
