ROCHESTER — AMVC Management Services, a diversified swine management company based in Audobon, Iowa, has selected Taylor Jansen as a swine production intern for the summer.
She is the daughter of Eric and Michelle Jansen, of Monticello, and is interning at a breed-to-wean sow farm in Rochester to gain hands-on experience in sow production.
“I am enjoying the opportunity to spend time with pigs and experience new things,” Jansen said.
Throughout the 10-week summer internship, Jansen will be mentored by her farm manager and AMVC staff to learn the daily tasks associated with running a successful sow farm. Every week, Jansen will be learning and mastering different tasks on the farm, as her time is split between the farm’s breeding and farrowing departments.
“Taylor is eager to work and learn the production side of the swine industry. She has such a bright future and I know she will make a great impact on not only the swine industry, but also on the animal health industry,” said Katie Fisher, AMVC regional recruiter.
This internship will complement her degrees in animal science and pre-veterinary medicine as she enters her junior year at Purdue University. Jansen aspires to be a large animal veterinarian and says this internship gives her the opportunity to experience swine production.
This summer, AMVC is hosting nine swine production interns. AMVC Management Services is headquartered in Audubon, Iowa, and manages 143,000 sows across eight states.
