The Monon Fire Department pulls a Monticello fire engine during the traveling trophy portion of the competition Saturday at the Spirit of Monticello festival. The team turned in a time of 16.58 to win the traveling trophy for a second straight year. They also won the overall competition, beating out 13 other teams, with an identical 16.58 time.

MONTICELLO — It was double the delight for the Monon Fire Department’s Fire Engine Pull team Saturday afternoon as it won both the overall competition and the yearly traveling trophy from the Sprint of Monticello event.

In all, 14 teams took part in the pull.

The Monon Fire Department took the top spot in the overall competition by pulling a fire engine across the finish line in 16.58 seconds. The Buffalo Fire Department was second with a time of 17.28, and North White Football No. 1 was third with a 17.35.

Twin Lakes Football No. 1 was fourth (17.53), North White Football No. 2 was fifth (17.62) and Team Travis was sixth (18.60).

Other team finishes are: Twin Lakes Football No. 2 (19.30), Monticello Fire Department (19.72), The Saloon (20.59), Team Andrew (21.13), Team Lee Ann-White County Special Olympics (22.05), Reynolds Fire Department (22.58), the all-female team from Rugies (24.24) and Hubbard GMC (24.48).

For the second consecutive year, the Monon Fire Department won the Spirit of Monticello Fire Engine Pull Traveling Trophy after they out-tugged three other participating fire departments with another showing of 16.58 seconds.

The Buffalo Fire Department was second with a 17.78, Monticello Fire Department was third with a 19.99, and Reynolds FD rounded it out with a 22.05 clocking.
