MONTICELLO — A 12-year-old boy died Thursday while riding the Hoosier Hurricane ride at Indiana Beach amusement park, officials said.

Area media outlets have identified the boy as Brayden Cooper, of Lafayette.

According to White County Coroner Anthony Deibel, it’s suspected the young Lafayette resident had some kind of medical condition.

The boy’s autopsy is scheduled for around 5 p.m. Friday, Deibel said.

The Monticello Fire Department were the first to respond to a distress call at Indiana Beach. Fire Chief Galen Logan confirmed that the death wasn’t the result of an accident or ride malfunction, and is thought to have been due to a pre-existing medical condition.

The boy was taken to Indiana University Health White Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

White County Sheriff Bill Brooks said rescue personnel from the Monticello Fire Department had to reach the boy who was about three stories high on the ride. Brooks said CPR was performed, but the boy remained unresponsive.

No other information was available at press time.
