Voting got off to a slow start Tuesday in White County due to problems with new technical equipment.

The polls opened at 6 a.m. at eight polling places in the county. But after going through the identification process with voters, election workers found the equipment failed to encode voter cards with the proper ballots.

The White County Election Board held an emergency public meeting at 2 p.m. at the county courthouse to explain what had occurred and steps taken in response. Area radio stations were contacted Tuesday morning to inform the public about the problem.
