Tropicanoe Cove opened in 1999 and will celebrate its 20th anniversary as “Lafayette’s Hottest Place to Cool Off.”

LAFAYETTE – The votes are in, and the names of the two new water slides currently being built at Tropicanoe Cove have been selected. After a process of brainstorming by the staff at Lafayette Parks and Recreation and by the Mayor’s Youth Council, and a week-long public survey, the results are in. The six-lane Mat Racer slide will be called the “Riptide Racer” and the bright green Aqua Loop slide will be called the “Tiki Twist”.

The team from Aqua Tech Solutions is still on site and hoping to wrap up construction in the next week. After completion, the slides will undergo testing and our aquatics staff will be trained on operations and safety. They hope to have the slides open to the public in mid-June.

The Riptide Racer is 44’ tall, and features parallel lanes that allow Cove patrons to “race” one another down the slide on body-sized water mats, reaching expected maximum speeds of 25-27 miles per hour. The Tiki Twist is 54’ feet tall and features a single translucent tube that is approximately 320’ in length. This slide allows the rider to drop through a “trap door” and attain a speed of up to 35mph as they travel though a single loop flume.
