DeMOTTE — Yet another team from DeMotte Little League punched their ticket to the State Tournament by winning a hard-fought three-game series over July 6 and 7. Playing at home, the youngest All-Star Softball team, with girls aged 8, 9 and 10, defeated their counterparts from Chet Waggoner Little League in South Bend who represented District 14. DeMotte was the District 1 winner.

The teams first faced off on Saturday at 11 a.m. with DeMotte emerging victorious in a 6 – 2 game that went the distance. The game was the first time that the team has not 10-run-ruled for a shortened game all season.

Unfortunately, Chet Waggoner rallied in the second game of the double-header, winning 10 – 5 to force a Sunday rubber-match game in the best of three series.

On Sunday, DeMotte hung on to eke out a 5 – 4 victory. After winning the sectional title, the team will play July 19 – 22 in the State Tournament to be held in Zionsville.

To win the district title initially, the team won with a decisive 22 – 0 pounding of Hessville in just three-and-a-half innings.

The team includes Jessica Beauchamp, Maci Capps, Addison Culbrethm Avery Diener, Madalynn Hemphill, Brooklyn Mackey, Eva Orsburn, Clara Previs, Mallorie Rose, Zuri Scoleri, Brooklyn Shepherd and Hailey Shepherd.
