WHEATFIELD — Twelve of the 13 members of the 2019-20 Dance Team at Kankakee Valley High School attended a week-long dance camp taught by the National Dance Alliance. They didn’t have far to go, however, as camp was held at KVHS with the instructor coming here.
Home camps are for teams that can’t get to an overnight camp. The team selects the dates that work best and receive one-on-one training from an NDA instructor. Home camps offer schedules that can be customized by the hosts.
Despite the one-school environment, the group was still eligible to compete for an invite to NDA special events. The group, coached by Wendy Dunham, excelled in their qualifying performance and were awarded not only an invite to Nationals, but also a Special Event Invite to appear at other NDA events such as parades.
Of the 12 that attended camp, six were invited to tryout for a spot on the coveted All-American Dance Team. Emma Geren, Alia Dresher and Emma Edwards earned that honor.
The other members of the team are Emily Gray, Harley Sorba, Christina Sexton, Lisa Black, Trista Smith, Bri Castle, Amber Culbreth, Brandylee Howe and Grace Winkler.
