DeMOTTE — A new, locally-owned pharmacy has joined the medicine business in DeMotte. Mike Swart, a familiar face to many from his 22 years at CVS, has opened Valley Pharmacy. The pharmacy opened on Tuesday, June 18, in the vacant Fagen Pharmacy location in the front of Tysen’s Family Food Center.
Swart, a 1997 graduate of Purdue University was the Pharmacy Manager at CVS, and brings not only the knowledge and experience, but also the personal touch that a smaller business can offer.
“I felt strongly that the town has been missing a family-oriented pharmacy since Fagen’s closed down,” said Swart. “When the opportunity to fill that niche arose, I called a friend and talked to my family and found myself starting a new business.”
The pharmacy is affiliated with the Health Mart group but Swart emphasized that it is locally-owned and operated. It is a franchise and Health Mart simply provides necessary tools and computer systems.
Joining Mike behind the counter is his wife Trina, who recently completed Pharmacy Tech certification. She is also a Radiologist and mom to their children, twins Ben and Brooke who are 13, as well as 9-year-old Ian.
Other familiar faces will be techs Tina Richie, Lindsey Winter and Stef Ber.
Valley Pharmacy will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The pharmacy accepts almost all insurance plans and will offer competitive pricing.
