On April 29, Troy M. O’Brian (44 years of age) from Gary, was picked up in Lake County and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center on a warrant issued through the Jasper County Circuit Court on Sept. 28, 2018, for the following charges:
• Burglary (Level 5 Felony)
• Auto Theft (Level 6 Felony)
The warrant/arrest stems from an incident on Sept. 11, 2018. On that date the victim(s), who live approximately 7 miles southwest of Wheatfield, called the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department advising that their vehicle had been stolen from a pole barn located on their property. Jasper County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded and began an investigation.
That same day several other victims, in that same area, reported to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department of burglaries and thefts from their vehicles. The earlier vehicle that had been stolen was entered as such into the state computer system.
Later that same day the sheriff’s department was notified that the stolen vehicle had been located in Gary, Indiana. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department advised that one of the suspects that had fled from the stolen vehicle was identified as Troy M. O’Brian. A search for O’Brian was conducted; however, he could not be located. The investigating officers of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department completed a probable cause affidavit for O’Brian and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Arrests and criminal charges are mere accusations. Every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
