The Watseka Warriors basketball program took on the Arcola Purple Raiders in a scrimmage recently at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, Ind. where the 1986 film ‘Hoosiers’ was filmed.

According to the gym’s website, “The Hoosier Gym is a nonprofit organization that serves Knightstown and its surrounding communities as well as visitors from around the country and the world.”

The Arcola Purple Raiders are coached by Greg Gisinger, a former assistant of Watseka Warriors head coach, Chad Cluver.

After the scrimmage, the two teams took a tour of the building and viewed the museum commemorating the film.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Cluver.

“I also took the Warriors a few years ago when I first got to Watseka.”

Although the teams did not keep score, Cluver said the event was an enjoyable experience for his team.

“There was no scoreboard and all of the guys decided to shoot free throws underhanded like back in the day. The guys got to play and also use the locker room and walk around. It was a great time,” he said.

“We had a lot of varsity basketball family members there as well. Everyone enjoyed the museum, and the tour.”
