Kris Hoogstraat shows the Silver Beaver Award he was recently received as scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 158.

Boy Scout Troop 158 Scout Master Kris Hoogstraat has earned on of the highest honors bestowed upon a local scoutmaster.

He’s earned the Silver Beaver Award.

“It’s great to be recognized by your peers,” said Hoogstraat. “It’s huge to me.”

The Boy Scouts started in 1931, and there have been 50,000 volunteers nationally recognized with the award. His was earned through the Prairieland Council.

The Silver Beaver Award is a National Boy Scouts of America Award presented through the local council for distinguished service to youth. It’s the highest honor a council can present to a scouting volunteer. The selection of the recipients is based on the recipient being a registered scouter, the recipient demonstrating noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth within the territory under the jurisdiction of the local council, consideration to the recipient’s contribution to council-level involvement and impact on local council youth members and the recipient’s attitude toward and cooperation with the council.
