The home at Thomas and Second streets in Martinton is a total loss after Saturday morning’s fire.

A Martinton home is a total loss after a fire in the an early hours Saturday.

The initial page went out about 1 a.m., said Martinton Fire Chief Jeff Meyer.

It’s an older, wooden structure, thus, “It burned a little faster,” he said. “The roof just fell in.”

Fire crews from Papineau, Ashkum, Chebanse Township, Aroma Park, Beaverville and Donovan were called in to help.

Meyer said no one was living in the home; it was going through a remodeling inside.

He said the cause of the fire is unknown and there’s no reason to consider it suspicious.

Crews were back at their respective stations by 7 a.m., and he said there hasn’t been any rekindling at the scene.
