The Unit 9 School Board on Monday amended the contract of a principal to make him a temporary interim superintendent.
James Bunting, who is principal at Glenn Raymond School, will be the temporary superintendent from July 1 to Aug. 31, or until a permanent interim superintendent is found, said board president James Bruns.
Guy Gradert, who was superintendent this past year, left the position at the end of the fiscal year, which was June 30.
To fulfill legal requirements, Bruns said, the district has to have a superintendent in place, and the board has been interviewing prospective candidates.
He said they are close to hiring someone and in the process of finalizing things. Until that time, he said, Bunting will be taking over the role. Bunting was superintendent before Gradert, but has since been serving as principal at Glenn Raymond School.
Bruns said the board will be taking time to find the right for for the permanent superintendent role.
In other action Monday, the board approved the resignation of Katherine Kraai-Coulter, who was guidance counselor at Watseka Community High School.
Bruns said the board will now be searching for a replacement counselor.
The next regular meeting of the school board will be June 16.
