Wayne Acton recently won two North American Country Music Association International songwriting awards.

The North American Country Music Association International recently awarded Wayne Acton two songwriting awards. His song entitled “The Darker The Night” won the 2019 songwriter of the year for adult traditional gospel. He also won most promising songwriter of the year in adult traditional country for the song “Take My Hand.”

The awards took place at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in March. Acton had also received songwriting awards in 2016, 2017, and 2018 for other songs. Acton has two CDs available with these and other original songs that were recorded at Midnight Sounds Studio in Danville.

Acton and his wife Deanna reside in Collison. He sings with the local band

“Yesterday’s Country” and the “C4A country music ensemble.” He also organizes the

“Collison Country” summer music series, which will start off 2019 with the “Marvin Lee

Country Opry” on May 29 at 6 p.m. in the Masonic park in Collison. It is a free

show with food available. A freewill donation is accepted for Masonic projects such as

supporting local school music programs.

This is the eighth year that Collison Masonic Lodge #714 has hosted the “Collison Country” summer music shows. There are shows planned on the last Wed. of each month through Sept. If you go, bring your lawn chairs.
