The Hoopeston Area High School Lady Cornjerkers opened last week with a close game against Oakwood on the road.
The Lady Cornjerkers took hold of the lead in the fourth inning, putting up four runs, padding their lead with two more runs in the following inning.
Oakwood staged a comeback in the fifth inning with a three-run inning and following it up with two more in the next inning.
Hoopeston Area went into the final inning with a 8-7 lead and added one more run to their tally. Hoopeston Area held Oakwood off and picked up the 9-7 win.
Ali Watson led the game in hitting with three RBI. Audra Funk, Raven Rutherford, Jaylyn Linder, Kayla Goble, Emily Ray and Payton Small each had one RBI.
Logan Robinson picked up the win on the pitcher’s mound with five innings pitched. She had seven strikeouts while giving up two walks and three earned runs. Regan Shore pitched two innings of relief with one strikeout, no walks and allowed no earned runs.
Hoopeston Area picked up two big wins later in the week, defeating St. Anne 10-4 on the road and routing Westville 14-5.
The Lady Cornjerkers were set to take on Schlarman Academy Monday and to travel to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin Tuesday. They will face Milford at home Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and Georgetown-Ridge Farm at home Friday at 4:30 p.m.
The Hoopeston Area High School Cornjerkers baseball team took on Oakwood to start their week.
Oakwood defeated Hoopeston Area 15-5.
They followed this up with a big win over St. Anne, shutting their opponents outs 22-0.
Hoopeston Area wrapped up their week with another big, this time defeating Westville 18-6.
