Hoopeston Area High School’s cross country team hosted Rantoul and Armstrong-Potomac Tuesday night.
Trey Houmes placed first overall with a 17:2:9 followed closely by Rantoul’s Elijah Hall with 17:44 and Armstrong-Potomac’s Austin Birdgmen with an 18:02.
Only two girls ran at the meet. Hoopeston Area’s Gracie Eighner finished with a 23:11, well ahead of Rantoul’s Hope Russell’s 30:18.
Despite these strong finishes, Hoopeston Area was unable to come away with the win from Tuesday’s meet. Rantoul finished first, with Hoopeston Area taking second and Armstrong-Potomac taking third.
Hoopeston Area’s Dawson Grissom and Michael Helmuth finished within second of each, placing seventh and eighth with a 20:39 and a 20:42 respectively.
Hoopeston Area’s Joe Cropper finished 10th with a 21:16, followed by Elijah Wisdom in 12th with a 22:48, Adam Dixon in 13th with a 22:48 and Clay Goodrum in 14th with a 22:57. Damian Martin placed 18th with a 28:53 and Erin Hinojosa placed 20th with a 29:31 for Hoopeston Area.
The Hoopeston Area High School Cross Country Cornjerkers will next lace up their running shoes at 4:15 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin Quad Meet.
