The Hoopeston Area Cornjerkers soccer team continued their undefeated streak last week with victories over area opponents.

Hoopeston Area started the week with a game against Georgetown-Ridge Farm-Westville.

The Cornjerkers started got out of the gate early with Rhys Root scoring on an assist from Carson Alwardt at the 30:21 mark followed shortly by Ethan Smith scoring an unassisted goal on an rebound shot at 27:54. Neil Williams scored at the 21 minute mark on an assist by Root.

The Cornjerkers didn’t let up in the second half, scoring twice, once at 30:48 on a goal by Smith on an assist by Root and Joshua Delfino scoring on a header from Lucas Hofer at 8:49.

The Cornjerkers scored on their own goal at 35:08 when the ball was kicked by a Georgetown player. GRF-W scored again at 27:52.

Hoopeston Area won the game 5-2 with Goalkeeper Delfino earning a shut-out in the first half before being subbed out for Alwardt.

Hoopeston Area took on Oakwood/Salt Fork the next time they took the field.

Lucas Hofer scored the lone goal of the first half, made on an assist by Neil Williams, at the 5:15 mark.

The Cornjerkers came alive in the second half, starting with a goal scored by Ethan Smith on a rebound at 29:27, quickly followed by a Cameron Flint goal, scored on an assist by Payton Frederick, at 28:02. Frederick scored a goal of his own, on an assist by Brennan Granados, at 19:22.

Hoopeston Area added two more goals in the final five minutes of the game when Isaias Diaz, on an assist by Will Nogle, scored at 5:27. Nolan Alwardt scored a long 35-yard shot at the 26-second mark to put the game away.

The Cornjerkers shut-out Oakwood/Salt Fork 6-0. Cornjerkers Goalkeeper Josh Delfino was the winning goalie with one save and a complete game shut-out.

Hoopeston Area was set to host the Cornjerker Classic tournament over the weekend, but weather forced the cancellation of the tournament. Organizers are planning to reschedule the event.

Hoopeston Area’s season record sits at 6-0. They took on Judah Christian on the road Monday and hosted Schlarman Academy Tuesday. They will host Clifton Central at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
