One of the floats featured in last year’s Rossville Fourth of July Parade.

Several celebrations around the area have been set for Independence Day this week.

Hoopeston will have its fireworks display on July 3.

Rossville will host its usual full-schedule of activities July 4.

The Fourth of July Parade will start at 11 a.m. with the line-up starting at 10:30 a.m. behind the grade school at 10:30 a.m.

The Legion fish fry will begin and fire department water slide will begin at noon in Christman Park with the duck race starting at 4 p.m. at the river in the park.

Rankin’s Independence Day celebration will begin July 5 in Centennial Park.

The tractor pull weigh-in will be from 3-5 p.m. with the tractor itself starting at 6 p.m. The categories will include: antique tractors, 4-wheel truck and stock farmer tractors.

The food pavilion will be open from 3-10 p.m. and the beer tent will be open from 4 p.m.-1 a.m.

The celebrations will continue July 6.

The activities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the adult water ball sign-up with the adult water ball fight going from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

There will be musical acts from noon-2 p.m.

The cake walk, open to all ages, will be at 2:30 p.m.

The kids water ball fight, for ages 6-15, will start at 3 p.m.

There will be kids games and activities from 5-7 p.m. These may include pie eating, watermelon seed spitting, joke telling, egg tossing, pig calling and more.

The fireworks display will take place at dusk.
