Ryan Sowers, a special education teacher at Covington Community High School and Covington Middle School, has contributed to almost every conceivable team sport at the high school – four years coaching softball, two years coaching varsity girls basketball, an assistant for baseball, the current co-ed soccer coach.
Discipline, the drive to compete, learning how to work hard – Sowers learned, in high school and in college, valuable lessons from sports in his life.
“There’s a big joy in being in something bigger than yourself,” Sowers said.
“I enjoy working with the kids, that’s the big thing. I love seeing the kids go from point A at the beginning of the season to point B at the end, to see the progression they made as men and women on and off the floor.”
He, a former Covington athlete who played soccer, basketball and baseball, prepares his athletes for more than just the next game or hopes of a sectional championship.
