“Going Big: Abstract Works by Jeff Smith” started as an effort to do just that: Go Big! As you move through the exhibition, however, you’ll notice that some of the pictures are much smaller than those Smith has displayed in the past. Aside from the challenges inherent in painting large canvases, “Going Big” is also about the freedom of expanding the mind to discover intimate memories of large places, (Memory, Santa Fe, Indiana Landscape, April) and to imagine large, abstract concepts (Blue Wave, Ulterior Motives).
The paintings all exhibit Smith’s interest in Abstract Expressionism’s ability to connect viewers with the world in unusual and, sometimes, familiar ways.
Jeff Smith is a native of northwest Indiana and graduate of Purdue University. He is the News Director and Anchor for WLFI News 18. Jeff has been painting since 2005 and works exclusively in oils. He started working in realistic still life, landscape, and architecture styles but quickly moved to abstract because he finds the freedom of imagination more stimulating. He lives on a small farm in southeastern Tippecanoe County.
Museum will be CLOSED Independence Day and Labor Day.
